Using ADHD positives to overcome any difficulties
The Positive ADHD Attitude approach takes every day parenting skills and adapts these for children of all ages with ADHD and/or ODD. This can be supporting parents to adapt their own approach when managing challenging behaviour in their child. Alternatively PAA can also be delivered directly to an older young person, helping them motivate themselves to choose positive behavioural options by understanding their ADHD and thinking differences.
The programme material is delivered over 4 to 8 weeks in 1.5 hourly weekly or fortnightly sessions. The strategies are ordered within the PAA programme to address certain ADHD relevant processes over the whole contact period. This is done at your pace so we can concentrate on areas that are problematic and mention more briefly those you feel are under your control. These targets for change are shown in the diagram above/opposite.
The PAA uses everyday episodes of a young person's behaviour and experiences to bring in these strategies and overcome ADHD difficulties. The PAA uses specific strategies alongside the positive aspects of ADHD, an individual’s strengths and family support to work around the behavioural and neurocognitive challenges that ADHD can bring. It’s not about large changes: by understanding what ADHD is and exploring how it effects you all, you can use NFPP strategies to move on to a positive future.
